Job Description:
SUMMARY Responsible for all aspects of preparing and
distributing employees' payments, maintaining payroll records,
calculating taxes, balancing payroll accounts, and supervising the
Payroll Administrator. Performs a variety of complex accounting
functions in the preparation, processing, maintenance,
verification, and reconciliation of payroll, tax, and benefit
records, including 401(k) contributions. Makes technical decisions
requiring application and interpretation of data, procedures,
policy, and law. Oversees on- and off-cycle payroll processing,
related payroll controls, and policies and procedures; ensures that
all payroll entries are processed in a compliant manner and that
proper controls are followed. Reviews payroll output for accuracy
and timeliness.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Supervises Payroll
Administrator, providing direction, training, development, support,
and tools as needed.* Directs and manages payroll procedures;
creates and maintains timekeeping written policies.* Identifies
payroll liabilities by calculating federal and state income taxes,
social security taxes, unemployment payments, and workers
compensation payments.* Processes and distributes employee payments
by issuing checks, direct transfers or other payment methods.*
Prepares payroll reports that include savings deductions,
exemptions, and insurance coverage.* Submits quarterly and year-end
tax filings.* Ensures compliance with multi-state tax
requirements.* Maintains current knowledge of applicable
legislation related to paycheck preparation.* Conducts audits to
validate internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with
payroll and tax obligations, policies, practices, and regulations.*
Ensure and support employee transfers are accurately transacted on
a weekly basis.* Support managerial staff on ethical labor
transfers. Ensuring that labor is not disqualified and it is
properly posted according to MOS guidelines.* Post labor transfer
entry to the General Ledger.* Ensures timekeeping procedures are
followed as per company policy.* Trains managerial staff on all
timekeeping obligations; ensures all timekeeping reflects time
worked, including assisting managers with approving and/or
addressing all timekeeping duties.* Coordinates activities
supporting audits of payroll, taxes, and benefits.* Communicates
with Company employees to answer any questions regarding payroll.*
Maintains the timekeeping system database, which includes leased
(temporary) employees in Timekeeper, and all Payroll fields related
to Cambro employees.* Provides required information to temporary
agencies for proper billing and posting to financial records.*
Maintains privacy of payroll information and the database. Uses
discretion in discussing matters related to taxes, finances, or
insurance with employees.* Recommends improvements to
payroll-related business processes.* Processes all tasks related to
employee garnishments, working with various agencies to reconcile
when necessary.* Records and posts payroll entries to the General
Ledger.* Transmits all electronic files to outsourcing parties.*
Provides excellent customer service to all levels of the
organization.* Performs analysis of the data and ensures wage and
tax compliance.* Researches, analyzes, and retrieves data to
prepare and maintain complex payroll records, summaries, and
reports.* Works independently and as a team member; pitches in when
needed; establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships
with all levels in the organization.* Looks for opportunities to
increase efficiency and improve processes and workflows.* Maintains
reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and
dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the
organization.* Executes each essential duty satisfactorily in order
to perform job successfully.* Follows all safety procedures
required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety
meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or
unsafe/hazardous conditions.* Performs effectively as a team
member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give
feedback, and treats everyone with respect.* Takes ownership of own
work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions,
encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.*
Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns
and issues to immediate manager.* Able to understand and
demonstrate Cambro company culture, display company core values
(Safety, Quality, Respect, and Service).* Understands department's
key performance indicators and contributes to achieve these goals
both individually and as a team.* Other duties as needed or
required.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES * All documentation related to
the administration of the payroll software program.* All federal
payroll and payroll withholding guides.* The state payroll and
payroll withholding guides for each state where the Company has
employees.* Federal and State Tax return forms and instructions.*
Benefit plan guides, including but not limited to all health
carriers and 401(k) compliance, and the respective deduction
information tables.* Other guides and documentation considered
necessary.* Must be able to work overtime as needed, remain
flexible and open to possible schedule changes in order to meet
business needs.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed
below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

functions.The Payroll Manager must have current knowledge of
payroll responsibilities and sufficient wage and hour experience to
train the less experienced members of the team. This individual
must demonstrate solid understanding in all areas of payroll,
including processing, reporting, systems, taxation of wages, wage
and hour laws, time and attendance, garnishment processes, and
operational best practices.* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or
Finance, or equivalent education, training, and/or experience, with
coursework in math, accounting, finance, business management, and
communication.* Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
certification.* Five years' experience in Accounting and Payroll in
a mid-size to large organization.* Two years' experience
supervising at least one direct report in an accounting, finance,
human resources, or business function.* Ability to read and
interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions,
and procedure manuals.* Attention to detail: ensures records are
accurately kept and finances are balanced properly for employee
pay.* Mathematical skills: handles many important calculations,
shows a thorough understanding of basic math principles and comfort
with doing simple and more complex calculations.* Computer
literacy: advanced understanding of payroll database software
systems such as Kronos (strongly preferred), ADP, or SAP. Strong
computer skills and experience with spreadsheet software such as
Microsoft Excel to conduct finance tracking and create reports.*
Analytical skills: able to track, audit, report, and draw
conclusions on payroll data; able to visualize and create reports
using software such as Power BI.* Discretion: maintains
confidentiality and controls access to database and other payroll
information.* Communication: strong communication skills, including
effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and
presenting to groups of employees and/or managers.* Leadership:
guides and encourages the team; uses conflict resolution and
problem-solving skills related to managing teams as well as
employee finances.* Ability to write routine reports and
correspondence.* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.* Ability to
comprehend and take action on organization's business practices and
procedures.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Certified Payroll Specialist
(CPS)* Experience with Kronos Timekeeping and Payroll functions*
Able to use Power BI to create reports and visualize data* Able to
solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization
